On October 22nd the Miami Beach Senior High golf team advanced to Regional’s where they placed 4th out of 10 schools. After taking the back burner in recent years Beach Highs’ golf team is finally making progress, and now has titles to show for it.
Led by Coach Michael Perez; a Beach High veteran of 10 years, the golf team consists of thirteen members of both genders. Coach Perez inherited the golf team from Coach Soriano in 2002 and since then has gone threw numerous struggles. This is the first year the five player requirement has been met and topped with a souring thirteen players. “It’s hard work, but its fun!” 10th grade player Aaron Groff revealed. “I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t enjoy it.”
Monday threw Thursday from 3:00 till 6:00pm, these students meet at the prestigious Miami Beach Golf Club, where they practice with the aide of golf professionals. “We would like to be district champs!” Coach Perez expressed when asked about the future; “[and] qualify for state!” Senior Player Patrick Brennan and Junior Daniel Peterson have been recognized as the top two players, promising a bright future for the golf team.
The reigning champions Miami Columbus High took 1st in Regional’s, but with a 9 in 1 record, 2nd place in Districts and 4th in Regional’s, the Miami Beach Senior High golf team has ended its season on a promising foot. “Were all working hard to grow and make Beach High Proud” Coach Perez concluded. “Great work Players!”
